BALLET ARIEL CELEBRATES 25 YEARS WITH SPRING PERFORMANCES OF AN AMERICAN IN PARIS AND APPALACHIAN SPRING

Ballet Ariel rounds out its Silver Anniversary celebration season with a performance featuring An American in Paris, Appalachian Spring, and Dances from Le Corsaire, April 13, 27 and 28.

After successful Fall and Winter productions, Ballet Ariel completes its 25th season with three ballets at venues in Denver and Lakewood.

An American in Paris, Ballet Ariel-style, combines Gershwins sweeping orchestral classic with a charming storyline to create a narrative ballet about a young American womans first visit to Paris. She is transformed by the magic and vibrancy of the beautifully historic and undeniably romantic city. Her awakening to life and its possibilities is exhibited in the jazzy undertones of Gershwins score. Ballet Ariels Director Ilena Norton, and Ballet Ariels choreographer Gregory Gonzales, have created whimsical dances that capture the joy of Paris.

Appalachian Spring, as explored by Norton, is a fresh interpretation of the music composed by Aaron Copland for modern dance pioneer Martha Graham. The ballet depicts the wedding day at a Pennsylvania farmhouse in the early 20th century. The young couple experiences a range of emotions over the course of the day many couples can relate to apprehension, excitement, and finally, serenity. Ballet Ariel brings new life to the American classic from one of the great contemporary composers of the 20th century, incorporating classical movement and a dramatic narrative. Performed on pointe, Nortons ballet includes choreography from Gregory Gonzales, whose contemporary style integrates wonderfully.

Le Corsaire (The Pirate) selected dances will also be part of Ballet Ariels Spring program. In its full three acts, the ballet is the story of Conrad who falls in love with the beautiful Medora during the Ottoman Empire. She and the three Odalisques are purchased by the Pasha for his harem. Conrad rescues her and they sail off for their life ahead, together. Dances from the ballet originally choreographed by Marius Petipa are staged for Ballet Ariel by Oleg Dedogryuk, assisted by Patricia Renzetti.

“Genesis: Robin Cole Solo Exhibition” at Gallery 1261

Artist Robin Cole Debuts "Genesis" at Gallery 1261A Journey Between Science and Spirit March 16 30, 2024 Gallery 1261 is proud to present "Genesis," a solo exhibition by Denver-based artist Robin Cole. Drawing from the deep reservoirs of personal transformation and the vastness of the natural world, Cole's work bridges the realms of science and spirit, presenting a harmonious confluence of the internal and external wilderness.  Artist Statement:My work explores an inner wilderness by way of an outer one. These images come as often from within as without, informed as significantly by emotional texture and imagination as observation. I am interested in elemental experiences that possess this added, dream-like resonance, like a vision of tiny embryonic mysteries, or the ethereal glow of a nameless light in a white landscape. These are the times when the veil feels thin, when an omnipresent but unnoticed magic moves beneath the surface of the ordinary. In my work, I aim to weave this need for understanding into a broader and equally honest experience of imagination. Robin ColeAbout Robin Cole:Nature and those that inhabit itour human selves includedpossess a magic for me, one which I attempt to elicit by working within the bounds of realism as one might work within a poetic form, utilizing the formal constraints to evoke something beyond the boundary of those very limitations. I strive to carve out a compelling space in which those peripheral presences can stand forth, a space of co-existence with both the seen and the unseen. This idea of continuity and reciprocity between landscape and psyche is reflected in many of our myths, legends, and stories both ancient and modern. I am drawn to these primal sources and archetypes of our human storiesstories which, at a fundamental level, are nearly always developed in direct response to our wild, earthly home as a way of explaining, understanding, and relating to its elemental forces. -Robin Cole Genesis: Robin Cole Solo ExhibitionMarch 16 March 30, 2024March 16, 5 - 8 PM.
