at the Madden Museum of Art

Fleeting Presence: The Liminal Art of Daniel Sprick

The School of Art & Art History at the University of Denver proudly presents "Fleeting Presence: The Liminal Art of Daniel Sprick" at the Madden Museum of Art, located within the Palazzo Verdi building at 6363 S. Fiddlers Green Cir., Greenwood Village, CO 80111. The exhibition runs through April 28, 2024.

This exhibition, curated by 15 graduate students from the Master of Art History program and one undergraduate Fine Arts major, examines Daniel Spricks broad ranging oeuvre spanning portraiture, landscape, still life, and interiors. Student curators selected paintings and drawings from nearly four decades of Spricks work. All told, there are 54 works on view showcasing the evolution of Sprick's artistic practice.

The student-curators worked closely with Sprick to develop the exhibition in which they gained valuable insights and hands-on experience. Under the supervision of Dr. Geoffrey Shamos, this immersive practicum provided students with opportunities to learn from local curators and professionals from esteemed institutions such as the Museum of Contemporary Art Denver and the Denver Art Museum.

Daniel Sprick's hyper-realism is characterized by an embrace of uncertainty, uniting seeming opposites life and death, stillness and dynamism, transience and permanence to transform the mundane into the magical and mysterious. Drawing inspiration from the Dutch realist tradition, especially the works of Johannes Vermeer, Sprick's art is a manifestation of his expert manipulation of form, space, color, and light. His hauntingly beautiful paintings serve as a mirror to our reality, infused with an undercurrent of melancholy and subliminal meaning.

Daniel Sprick is represented at Gallery 1261 in Denver, CO and the Gerald Peters Galleries in Santa Fe, NM.
