Is MarillacHealth a non-profit organization?
Yes! Marillac is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. We are registered with the Secretary of State, Registration #20023006068   EIN: 84-1085822

Who can receive care at MarillacHealth?
We serve people of all ages, from birth to death, regardless of ability to pay. Most of our patients are from Mesa County, however we also welcome folks from surrounding counties. You will be asked to provide proof of residency with a valid Colorado driver’s license or ID, a current tax return, or vehicle registration. We accept patients who are uninsured, underinsured, or have insurance through Medicaid, Medicare or Rocky Mountain Health Plans. We also accept other private insurance plans, however MarillacHealth might be out of network. Patients pay according to their ability to pay which is determined through the eligibility process and is based on income and household size.

How do I become a patient at Marillac?
Call our main phone number (970-200-1600) and request to speak to an Eligibility Technician. You can also stop by and pick up a Financial Assistance Packet or print one in English or Spanish from the links below. You may be asked a few questions – a brief verbal screening – to determine if you are eligible for our sliding scale programs and Medicaid.

How do I know what I will pay for my care?
Our experts in the Eligibility Department will help determine what you will pay based on your income and household size, and whether you have insurance or Medicaid or Medicare. If you carry insurance, you may still be eligible for our sliding scale fee for care. Each person’s circumstance determines the amount they pay. The Federal Poverty Guideline Scale and our Sliding Fee Discount Scale is posted under Patient Info.

What is a sliding scale fee?
Sliding scale fees are the nominal fee or copayment amount for services based on the patient’s ability to pay. Fees for services are reduced for those who have lower incomes or can show that they are unable to pay the full cost of insurance or service. Note that sliding scale fees are not considered to be health insurance. Even patients above the income scale for the sliding fee discount can access care at MarillacHealth.

Is health care at Marillac free?
Except for persons who are homeless, Marillac services are not free. A sliding fee scale approved annually by Marillac’s Board of Directors enables patients to contribute according to their ability to pay. The eligibility process is important to determine the sliding fee / copay.

If I am a patient and I have other family members who also need health care, are they automatically able to receive care at Marillac?
All members of a family must be screened for eligibility for low-cost care at MarillacHealth.

Does it matter which Marillac health center I go to for care?
MarillacHealth has three locations where they provide primary medical, behavioral health and dental care. The 6th Street Clinic is located next to St. Mary’s Hospital at 2333 N. 6th Street in Grand Junction and offers the full scope of all its services: medical, dental, and behavioral. The 12th Street Clinic is located at 2139 N. 12th Street, Suite 2, in the 12th Street Plaza and provides medical services. The 29.5 Road Clinic is located on the first floor of the Mesa County Public Health Department, 510 29 ½ Road, Grand Junction. Only medical, behavioral health and basic dental services are located here. Once a patient establishes eligibility, they choose the location that suits their needs as long as the care they need is offered there.

What will happen to my care at Marillac if my economic status changes? What if I get a job and get paid more, or vice versa?
If your economic situation changes you should call an Eligibility Technician (970-200-1600) to review your status.

What do I do if I can’t make my appointment?
If you or a family member cannot make your scheduled appointment, please call the main office number at 970-200-1600 to reschedule. It is important you contact the office prior to missing your appointment.

Creating Senior-Friendly Spaces: Home Design Tips for Aging in Place

Creating a safe and comfortable living environment is essential for seniors who wish to age in place gracefully. With thoughtful design and practical adjustments, homes can be transformed into senior-friendly spaces that enhance independence and overall well-being. In this blog post, we will explore some valuable tips and design ideas to help you create a home that is safe, comfortable, and accessible for seniors, allowing them to maintain their independence and dignity.1. Remove Hazards: Start by eliminating potential hazards in the home, such as loose rugs, cluttered walkways, and low-hanging objects. Clear pathways ensure easy movement, reducing the risk of trips and falls.2. Optimize Lighting: Good lighting is crucial for seniors with reduced vision. Install bright LED lights in key areas like hallways, staircases, and entrances. Consider motion-activated lights to enhance safety during nighttime movement.3. Bathroom Modifications: Modify bathrooms with grab bars near the toilet and shower to provide support. Install a raised toilet seat and a non-slip bath mat to prevent slips. Consider a walk-in shower with a bench and handheld showerhead for added convenience.4. Kitchen Adaptations: Lower countertops and cabinets to a comfortable height, allowing seniors to access items without straining. Install pull-out shelves and easy-to-grasp handles on cabinets and drawers. Consider appliances with large, easy-to-read controls.5. Bedroom Comfort: Choose a comfortable mattress and install a nightlight to aid in nighttime navigation. Position the bed at an accessible height, allowing seniors to sit and stand with ease. Install sturdy handrails if necessary.6. Flooring: Opt for non-slip flooring materials, such as cork, rubber, or textured tiles. These surfaces provide traction and reduce the risk of slipping. Additionally, choose carpets with low pile to prevent tripping.7. Home Security: Invest in a home security system that includes medical alert features. This ensures that help is just a button press away in case of emergencies, providing peace of mind for both seniors and their caregivers.8. Technology Integration: Embrace smart home technology, including voice-activated assistants and remote-controlled devices. These innovations enhance convenience and enable seniors to control various aspects of their home environment effortlessly.9. Outdoor Considerations: Create a safe outdoor space with well-maintained pathways, non-slip surfaces, and adequate lighting. Install handrails on stairs and ramps, and consider raised garden beds for seniors who enjoy gardening without bending or kneeling.10. Regular Maintenance: Schedule regular home maintenance checks to ensure that all safety features are in good working condition. This includes checking grab bars, handrails, and other modifications for stability and durability.Designing a senior-friendly home is a thoughtful and meaningful process that greatly impacts the quality of life for aging individuals. By implementing these practical tips and design ideas, you can create a space that not only meets the physical needs of seniors but also promotes their emotional well-being and independence. With the right adjustments, seniors can continue to enjoy the comfort and familiarity of their own homes, ensuring a happy and fulfilling life as they age in place.

Honoring Legacy: Preserving Memories and Stories in Senior Care

In the tender embrace of senior care, there exists a treasure trove of memories and stories waiting to be unveiled. Each elderly resident carries within them a unique legacy, a tapestry woven with the threads of experiences, trials, and triumphs. Preserving these narratives isn't just an act of cherishing the past; it's a profound way of honoring the rich tapestry of a person's life. In senior care facilities around the world, dedicated professionals and compassionate caregivers recognize the importance of these stories. They understand that beyond the wrinkles and graying hair, there lies a reservoir of wisdom and history that deserves to be acknowledged and celebrated.By actively engaging in reminiscence therapy, storytelling sessions, and intergenerational activities, senior care communities are not just providing entertainment; they are weaving a web of connections between generations. These interactions bridge the gap between the elderly and the young, allowing a seamless flow of knowledge and understanding. Preserving memories isnt just about collecting tales of the past; its about fostering a sense of belonging, reducing feelings of isolation, and nurturing emotional well-being. Through carefully crafted activities, seniors are encouraged to share their life stories, passing down traditions, values, and life lessons to the younger generation. In doing so, we create a vibrant tapestry of shared experiences that enrich the lives of everyone involved. In senior care, honoring legacy isnt just a duty; it's a heartfelt celebration of the human spirit, reminding us all that every life, regardless of age, is a story worth telling and preserving.
