Physicians Regional Heart Center has earned a distinguished three-star rating from The Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) for its patient care and outcomes in coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) procedures. The three-star rating, which denotes the highest category of quality, places Physicians Regional Heart Center among the elite for heart bypass surgery in the United States and Canada.
The Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) star rating system is the most highly regarded overall metric of quality in cardiac surgery and considers a surgical team's performance before, during and after coronary artery bypass grafting surgery.
While the STS rating covers coronary artery bypass procedures, Physicians Regional has non-invasive and interventional cardiologists, covering most any heart condition you may have. Our Heart Center has expanded to include advanced surgical equipment and technologies, allowing a range of interventional cardiology procedures, including minimally invasive structural heart procedures. These services include coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), heart valve repair or replacement, as well as aortic, carotid and thoracic procedures.
“The three-star rating is an affirmation of our team's dedication to providing the highest quality of cardiac care to our patients," says Scot Schultz, M.D., medical director of Physicians Regional Heart Center and cardiothoracic surgeon. "To receive this distinction in our first year of eligibility is truly amazing. Patients and families who undergo treatment at The Heart Center at Physicians Regional can have peace of mind knowing they are receiving care from one of the top-rated cardiac surgery programs in the country."
The STS star rating system is one of the most sophisticated and highly regarded overall measures of quality in health care, rating the benchmarked outcomes of cardiothoracic surgery programs across the United States and Canada. The star rating is calculated using a combination of quality measures for specific procedures. Approximately 20% of those reviewed receive the three-star rating for isolated CABG surgery.
“The Society of Thoracic Surgeons congratulates STS National Database participants who have received three-star ratings,” said David M. Shahian, M.D., STS chair of the Task Force on Quality Measurement. “Participation in the national database and public reporting demonstrates a commitment to quality improvement in health care delivery and helps provide patients and their families with meaningful information to help them make informed decisions about health care.”
The Society of Thoracic Surgeons is a not-for-profit organization that represents more than 7,600 surgeons, researchers and allied health care professionals worldwide who are dedicated to ensuring the best possible outcomes for surgeries of the heart, lung and esophagus, as well as other surgical procedures within the chest. The Society’s mission is to enhance the ability of cardiothoracic surgeons to provide the highest quality patient care through education, research and advocacy.
When Rachel Ritter first walked through the doors of The Glenview, she wasnt leading concerts, organizing excursions, or planning community-wide celebrations. She was 15 years old, bussing tables in the dining room.Today, more than three decades later, Rachel has come full circle as The Glenviews new Lifestyle Director a role that perfectly combines her lifelong dedication to the community with her passion for enriching the lives of residents.Along the way, Rachel earned both a nursing degree and a degree in history, supported in part by a scholarship from The Glenview Scholarship Fund. My goal is simple: every resident should wake up each morning with something exciting to look forward to.That philosophy is reflected in every square of The Glenviews bustling Activities Calendar. A Calendar Packed with PossibilityRachels vision is ambitious: create enough variety that every resident can find something that sparks joy, curiosity, connection, or purpose. Its my job to bring joy to peoples lives, said Rachel. For Jeanne Findlater, moving to The Glenview at Pelican Bay wasnt just a change of address it was a discovery. I wish Id done it years ago, she said. I simply didnt realize what this lifestyle could offer.Jeanne knows a thing or two about recognizing exceptional opportunities. In 1979, she made history as the first woman in the country to lead a television station in a Top 10 market, when ABC appointed her Vice President and General Manager of WXYZ-TV in Detroit. Today, the Michigan Journalism Hall of Fame member, says one of the best decisions shes ever made was choosing The Glenview. I love having my own home and my privacy, Jeanne said. But I also love knowing that everything is taken care of. I dont worry about maintenance, repairs, or the little things anymore. Its incredibly freeing. The Freedom to Enjoy Every DayMost afternoons, Jeanne relaxes with a glass of wine, a mystery novel, and sweeping views of the Gulf before heading to dinner in The Glenviews elegant dining room. When shes ready to be social, all she has to do is open her front door. Its like living in a beautiful boutique hotel, Jeanne said. There are concerts, lectures, fitness classes, bridge, mahjongg, and wonderful people everywhere. It all comes together to create a very rich life.An Unmatched LocationFor Jeanne, The Glenviews location is equally extraordinary. Theres nothing else like it, she said. Were surrounded by the beauty of Pelican Bays protected mangroves, and I can take the complimentary tram to the beach whenever I want, enjoy lunch by the Gulf, then walk to waterside shops, the Artis Naples Performing Arts Center, or the Baker Museum. Everything is right here.A Home Thats Truly Her OwnJeanne also appreciates that residents own their homes, allowing her to create a space thats uniquely hers. I opened up my kitchen, added granite, and created a home thats perfect for entertaining, she said. It feels exactly the way I wanted it to.The Difference is the PeopleAbove all, Jeanne says its the people who make The Glenview exceptional. The staff is extraordinary, she said. Theyre caring, thoughtful, and always looking out for us. You feel supported every single day.Looking back, Jeanne has only one regret. I waited too long, she said. Life here is everything I hoped retirement could be.
