TEXAS HOME CARE DEFINITIONS

24 Hour Care: Continuous care provided at home by one or multiple caregivers.

24 Hour Contact: Availability of someone to speak with you at any time of the day.

Alzheimers/Dementia Care: Non-skilled care for clients with memory issues, including establishing routines, providing reminders for daily activities, rerouting if necessary, and assisting with sleep issues or sundowning. Caregivers adapt routines and activities to meet changing needs using creativity and caregiving skills.

Bonded: A bonding company has secured money available to the consumer if they need to file a claim against the company.

Homemaker/Companion: Non-medical assistance with meal preparation, laundry, light housekeeping, errands, activities, outings, companionship, and other household duties. These services are provided by agencies licensed by the state.

Incontinence Care: Scheduled bathroom visits to promote continence and provide necessary toileting and hygiene care.

Insured: If someone gets hurt on the job, a claim is filed against the company's insurance if the company is insured. If not, the claim is filed against the homeowner's insurance.

Med-Alert Available: Personal medical alert products that can be activated by pushing a button.

Medication Reminder: Assistance with reminding individuals to take their medications without dispensing them.

Minimum Hours Per Visit: The minimum number of hours an agency provides service per visit.

RN on Staff: The agency has a Registered Nurse on staff.

Transportation: Rides provided to shopping, appointments, and other outings.

Workers Comp: Insurance covering medical and rehabilitation costs and lost wages for employees injured at work.
