We began in 2005 when a group of neighbors joined togetheras Washington Park Caresto help older adults in their community age well at home. This model is based on the national Village Movement, which equips neighbors to deliver vital services, empowering older adults to age interdependently in their own homes, on their own terms. In 2007,A Little Help incorporated as a 501(c)(3) with the vision of neighbors connected across generations, creating strong communities.In 2011, we hired the organizations first full-time Executive Director,and this level of leadership has led us to many great successes, including: growth in member and volunteer participation; greater depth in quality and quantity of our services; professional board and staff recruitment; and fundraising through foundation grants, corporate partnerships, giving campaigns, individual donors, and events.We have also expanded programming systems, capacity, and vision; improved service coordination and volunteer management; and improved branding, marketing, web presence, and strategic planning, visioning, and momentum. During the COVID -19 pandemic, it is essential to help older adults with groceries, prescriptions, outdoor chores, and other critical needs. It is also important to call our members to ensure that they are okay and that they have a friendly voice to connect with, combatting loneliness and isolation.If you can spare a few hours per week or every other week to run errands or make phone calls, please start by filling out an application form.By volunteering with A Little Help you understand that there are inherent risks associated with running essential errands and delivering physical goods to older adult members during the COVID pandemic, and you agree to accept those risks and you hereby release, indemnify, and hold harmless A Little Help, its directors and officers, employees, representatives, sponsors, organizers, and agents from any and all claims, causes of action, and liability arising from or in any way connected to your volunteer participation with A Little Help.Community Volunteers are the Life-Blood of A Little Help in core annual trainings and orientations held regularly. Our services are only as good as our volunteers, so we invest in the highest quality professional development for them. As a result of our investment and the positive relationships they build with their senior neighbors our volunteer retention rate is over 80%, with an average tenure of three years.Volunteers are also considered members in our organization, as such, we are blurring the lines between those serving and served. Volunteers benefit from their involvement in an intergenerational community and the opportunity to give back to strengthen their own neighborhoods. We also strive to provide opportunities for teens and younger volunteers to be involved in these grassroots efforts. As a nonprofit organization, we can provide students with school community service hours, and we are happy to complete the necessary paperwork to show their participation.
