Caring for a loved one with dementia isn’t easy. Between memory loss, mood changes, and the growing need for day-to-day help, it can feel like a full-time job—one that takes a toll emotionally, physically, and financially. At Cornerstone Caregiving, we know just how overwhelming this journey can be. That’s why we’re excited to share something new that could make a real difference: the GUIDE Program.

What's the GUIDE program all about?

GUIDE stands for Guiding an Improved Dementia Experience. It’s a new initiative from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, designed to give families extra support when they need it most. The program is aimed at helping people living with dementia—and the family members who care for them—by offering services like:

  • Respite care to give caregivers a well-deserved break
  • Care coordination to help you navigate the healthcare system
  • Dementia-informed support from professionals trained in memory care

Who Can Use It?

The GUIDE Program is available to Medicare Part A and B beneficiaries who’ve been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s or another form of dementia and meet certain medical criteria. Once approved, families work with a care team to build a plan that fits their unique situation.

Not sure if your loved one qualifies? Reach out to your local Cornerstone Caregiving team and we’ll walk you through the process.

Why GUIDE Is a Big Deal for Families

Let’s face it—caring for someone with dementia can be exhausting. Most caregivers don’t get the time off or support they truly need. That’s where the GUIDE Program comes in. It’s here to:

  • Take some weight off your shoulders with funded respite care
  • Make things easier with a dedicated care coordinator
  • Ensure that everyone involved in care understands the specific needs of dementia patients

How Cornerstone Caregiving Fits In

As a national respite partner for the GUIDE Program, Cornerstone Caregiving works with families to put care plans into action. Whether that means helping with daily routines, offering caregiver breaks, or connecting you with community resources—we’re here to make sure no one goes through this alone.

Every care plan is flexible and personalized. It’s not one-size-fits-all, because no two families are the same.

Let’s Talk—We’re Here to Help

If you’re caring for someone with dementia, or just looking for a bit more support, the GUIDE Program might be exactly what you need. Cornerstone Caregiving is ready to help you learn more, see if you qualify, and get started with services that make a real difference.

That Thing we DO

That Thing we DOThoughtful reflections in 2026 Over thinking UGHWhen working through the process for putting our loved ones in the care of someone else, this does not mean we go radio silent. We can still be involved OH SO MUCH!They still need us and our love OH SO MUCH!In some ways are we better for it and to them? We can pick our times to be involved when we are at our best to handle come what may. Sometimes stepping back and looking from a distance we can see clearer what they need. We are better equipped to give that they extra love and attention. On the flipside, some of us, thrive on caring for our loved ones. We were raised and made for this moment. What does your personality type say you can do?  Listen to you and plan on this in advance. Talk about it with family before it becomes a tidal wave heading right for you. Remember you may be the oldest child or even the youngest but you are not alone. Turn to those in the know or family to help you with this very important choice. Be it temporarily or long term stays here at Prestige Living LLC in Fort Collins, CO, we encourage families to stay connected and engaged with family members living with us. It is so vital to their feelings of well-being that they are at home when they can share their space here with family.
