The Arc is one of the largest and most respected nonprofit organizations in the United States dedicated to advocating for and supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and their families. Founded in 1950, the organization works to promote human rights, inclusion, independence, and equal opportunities for people with disabilities throughout every stage of life. Through its nationwide network of hundreds of local and state chapters, families can access services such as special education advocacy, employment support, future planning assistance, caregiver resources, housing guidance, and community inclusion programs.The organization is also recognized for its leadership in disability rights advocacy, helping advance important protections and legislation including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), IDEA, Medicaid support programs, and community living initiatives.
