Program Coordinator Role:

The role of the Senior Companion Program Coordinator is to assist with the daily

management of the AmeriCorps Senior Companion Program, and is a working assistant

to the Senior Companion Program Director.  The coordinator will serve as the

       point of contact for the volunteers and clients and address their needs and pass along

required information to the Program Director.  The coordinator will be involved and work

with community organizations, AmeriCorps Seniors, Dr. Piper Center staff, volunteers

and clients.     Up to 30 hours a week to start, may lead to more. Hourly rate applies

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensure the program runs efficiently by following the policies and procedures set forth by various grants and funding agencies.
  • Assist with the recruitment and onboarding of new volunteers, coordinating volunteer assignments and completing volunteer evaluations.
  • Ensure volunteers comply with program requirements including the timely submission of documents.
  • Complete paperwork and site visits to assess clients for program participation.
  • Act as a liaison between the volunteer station coordinators and the Dr. Piper Center.
  • Assist in conducting volunteer meetings.  This includes planning, scheduling and conducting monthly in-service meetings and volunteer orientation.
  • Ensure creation and distribution of monthly newsletter and calendar for volunteers. 
  • Provide requested information or testimonials for reports to funding agencies.
  • Promote community awareness of the DPC programs through presentations and speaking engagements with individuals or groups.
  • Assist with fundraising activities.
  • Have a personal vehicle and be willing to travel regularly in our service area.

Desirable Characteristics:

  • Working knowledge of senior community and available services.
  • Computer literate with ability to use multiple software programs.
  • Strong organization, communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Bilingual
  • Ability to attend after-hours and weekend meetings/events if needed.

Education Requirements:

  • Associates degree or High School Diploma/GED with relevant experience.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills necessary for preparing written reports and oral presentations.

Assist in the coordination and preparation of volunteer orientation and monthly in-service meetings to include securing trainers. Assist in recruiting new volunteers by handing out flyers in the community and providing information regarding the program by speaking to individuals or groups regarding the program. Perform comprehensive intake and assessment of client needs to ensure appropriateness of participation in the program. Provides case management of clients to include scheduling of appointments and services and providing information and referral of community resources. Processes client information and progress notes in database. Maintains on-going dialogue with agencies and other community resources in coordinating services for clients.
