Most recreation centers offer the Silver Sneakers program which is designed for Medicare participants with select health insurance and includes facility amenities, drop-in fitness classes and some specialized programs.Community recreation centers offer significant social benefits for seniors, including providing a safe environment to get acquainted with others who have common interests or goals. Whether you are coming for your favorite Aqua Zumba class or playing cards in the lobby, the Center affords opportunities to expand your mind, get engaged in your community and make new relationships.Recreation centers are more than just a gym and swimming pool. Most centers offer several classes and programs for seniors to stay physically active and mentally alert. Activities can include card games like bridge or poker; and presentations on topics related to seniors, like How to Down Size Your Home or How to Surf the Internet. Several centers offer fun, affordable trips and tours for seniors that include plays, museums, sporting events, meals out and much more. You can enjoy a well-planned excursion with the convenience of having a driver!Several community recreation centers offer special volunteer opportunities for seniors from helping at a Senior Resource desk, working a special event or leading a nature walk in a local park.
