The mission of SRDA is to provide programs and projects that enhance the quality of life for the senior community of Pueblo and increase opportunities for independent living. Through its inclusive structure, symbolized by SRDA~s umbrella logo, the agency ensures that Pueblo area senior citizens and other frail and handicapped persons maintain as healthy, self-reliant, and independent lifestyles as possible.In 1994, thanks to a combination of public and private funding, the Joseph H. Edwards Active Adult Center was built in downtown Pueblo at 230 North Union Avenue. Our impressive facility, located near the Historic Arkansas Riverwalk Project, City Hall, Historic Union Avenue District, and senior apartment complexes, houses the SRDA offices and our many comprehensive programs. For seniors who like to stay physically and socially active, SRDA Recreation offers a variety of social and leisure activities for those age 50 and older. At SRDA, you~ll find a variety of affordable fitness classes, including strength training, yoga, chair aerobics, and line dancing. In addition, we offer classes for computers, acrylic, sketching, oil and watercolor painting, and other fun, inexpensive workshops for arts and crafts. On a daily basis we offer pool tables, free exercise machines, a big-screen TV with movie players, and a computer room, with internet access. Or, you might enjoy one or more of our weekly game groups, such as bridge, pinochle, chess, Scrabble, dominoes, and Mah Jong. For our more crafty seniors, we also host monthly and biweekly groups for quilting and knitting. The friendly staff at SRDA Recreation welcomes you, and anyone age 50 or older, to call or stop by any weekday to enjoy our programs and activities.
