VERY IMPORTANT: Regarding Medicare it is illegal for an insurance agent to call, text, e-mail, knock on your door, hang anything on your door or vehicle or approach you without your consent. If they do ask for their National Producer Number NPN, and you will hear a click and removed from their list. If they dont hang up, get their number and report them to Medicare. There is so much fraud where people are being switched to plans that they never approved or they were miss led. Shop local, do background checks before you give anyone your personal information. You can google them, google reviews, check their Facebook, etc. Make sure that if you are working with someone you can call them personally if you have any questions or concerns. Medicare Annual Enrollment is October 15-December 7th for January 1st, 2027, effective. What can be changed at this time is Medicare Part D Drug Plans and Medicare Part C (Advantage Plans). You should have received your Notification of Change from your current insurance plan. This outlines the current year to the new year changes, as an example if your specialist provider costs $20 now it might say $35 in 2027 (no correlation just an example). Medicare Part C / Advantage Plans, most carriers have raised out of pocket limits and copays along with decreased extra value benefits for 2027. Annually Medicare Advantage Plans make changes. They must all include the same features as Original Medicare but not at the same cost share. They can have a premium, Medical and or Prescription deductible, copays and coinsurance can change. Extra Value such as Vision, Dental, Over the Counter, Part B Give Back, transportation, etc. can all change or be eliminated. Medicare sets the annual in-network out of pocket maximum; in 2026 it is $9,250 for in-network and $13,900 out-of-network services combined (2027 this will increase). However, individual insurance plans may set lower limits. The old saying if it is not broken do not fix it DOES NOT apply to Annual Enrollment. Every year I see many people that have not checked/compared their current plan to what is new. I have saved so many people hundreds and in many cases thousands of dollars. You should be working with a broker that represents many insurance companies. Make sure you check them out, especially if you are going to allow someone in your house. I recommend meeting in their office. For me we represent most insurance carriers in our area and carrying all their literature with me is almost impossible. We use three large screens so that our clients can clearly see and compare the differences between the plans. The minimum information always needed is all your doctors, medications: names, milligrams, and dosage. We load your current plan and then compare it to all the other companies in your area. What companies have all your doctors, the price for your medication normally makes a significant difference. Then the Extra Value is what is most important to you. We do NOT CHARGE for your review and if warranted to change your insurance plan. Ethics is most important and if you are on the best plan we will tell you, plus you can see for yourself. If your plan was CANCELLED/DROPPED for 2027, you have a guaranteed issue into a Medigap/Medicare Supplement. This is huge and very important, know your options!Medicare Seminars they are good for general information. A one-to-one appointment where you can dive into your doctors and medication is best, plus you can then compare other companies in one place. Medicare Part D most insurance carriers have taken away insurance agents ability to help you with your Part D Only drug plans this does not apply to most Advantage plans, standalone drug plans as well as Advantage Plans, you wont have to pay more than $2,400 in out-of-pocket drug costs, which include deductibles, co-pays, coinsurance. It is especially important to check your plans formulary as medication must be in formulary to be capped. 2027 RX deductible will be capped at $715.00. As a reminder the cost of the plan is not as important as the cost plus your medications, that is what you look at, the total cost. It is important to know what the medication is used for to determine if it is covered by the plan. Example Wycovy may be covered but to be covered it must be used for certain heart conditions or diabetes, Medicare does not cover weight lose medications at this time. As a reminder if you choose NOT to ENROLL in a Part D drug plan and in later years you want one you will have to wait for Annual Enrollment and then you will assed a penalty for every month you did not have a drug plan, that penalty will last for the REST OF YOUR LIFE! When you turn 65 you are eligible for Medicare, once you have worked 40 quarters roughly 10 years there is no cost for Medicare Part A. Part A covers Hospitals, Skilled Nursing, Home Health & Hospice. Medicare Part B you can choose to take at 65, or you can hold off if you are still working and have credible coverage. If you do not have group health insurance that is considered qualified, and then you want Medicare you would have a late enrollment penalty for each month you did not have Part B & Part D, and that penalty will last for the rest of your life. Part B covers doctors, imaging, blood work, ambulance, durable medical equipment, etc. Part D is a Medicare Drug Plan and covers medications. During your initial enrollment period it is especially important to understand your options! Medicare Supplements/Medigap Plans are NOT guaranteed issues; you may need to medically qualify. You can purchase a Medigap Plan during your 1st 6 months on Medicare Part B without medical underwriting. There are a lot of things you need to know. Again, work with an agent you can trust! Especially important: when you move you need to know your options. Can you keep the same plan? Do you need to make a change and what does that look like? One of the most important decisions families can make as their loved one's age is when to begin exploring senior living options. Too often, the conversation doesnt happen until a crisis occursa fall, hospitalization, medication concern, caregiver burnout, or sudden change in care needs. At that point, families may feel overwhelmed and pressured to make a major decision quickly. Instead of choosing what truly feels right, they may simply choose what is immediately available.Senior Living Should Be a ChoiceNot a CrisisPlanning ahead gives seniors and their families something incredibly valuable: time.Time to tour communities.Time to ask questions.Time to compare services and costs.Time to meet the team.Time to understand care options. And most importantly, time for the senior to have a voice in the decision. When the decision is made proactively, seniors can participate in choosing where they want to live, what lifestyle appeals to them, and what is important to their daily happiness and independence. Why Families Choose Springwood CourtAt Springwood Court Assisted Living, we believe the transition to senior living should feel like a new beginningnot a response to an emergency. Our goal is to provide a warm, welcoming environment where residents can receive support while continuing to enjoy the things that make life meaningful. With a tenured, experienced team, 24/7 staff presence, engaging activities, chef-prepared meals, housekeeping, outings, and a strong focus on personalized care, Springwood Court strives to create a community where residents feel known, valued, and at home. Our philosophy is simple:The building may be brick and mortar, but the people are what make it a home to thrive! That is why we encourage families to visit us before there is a crisis. Come through the doors. Meet our team. Talk with residents. Ask questions. Learn about our services and how we can support changing needs.Planning Ahead Protects ChoiceExploring senior living early does not mean someone has to move immediately.Sometimes the best first step is simply taking a tour and beginning a conversation. A senior may decide they arent ready todaybut now the family knows their options and has a relationship with a community they trust. That preparation can make an enormous difference when circumstances eventually change.Dont Wait Until There Is No ChoiceA crisis can take away options. Planning creates them.At Springwood Court, we want families to feel comfortable starting the conversation earlywhen there is time to make thoughtful decisions, involve their loved one, and find the right fit.Start the conversation. Take the tour. Ask the questions. Know your options.Because senior living should be about choosing where you want to livenot simply finding somewhere to go when you have nowhere else to turn.Springwood Court Assisted LivingFeel the Difference. The Residents Are Not Our Business. They Are Our Why.
When "What Do We Do With the House?" Becomes the Hardest QuestionEvery senior transition starts the same way: a decision gets made to downsize, to move closer to family, to relocate to a retirement community, or to finally let go of a home that's become too much to manage. But making that decision is often the easy part. What comes next is the hard part: sorting through decades of belongings, figuring out how to sell the house, coordinating movers, arranging safe transportation, and finding the right professionals to help along the way.In Sarasota, where so many residents are retirees or the adult children of aging parents, this scenario plays out constantly. Families quickly discover that a senior transition isn't a single task it's a whole coordinated project involving real estate, moving logistics, transportation, and sometimes a total life reset. Trying to manage it all alone, especially during a health event or a sudden change in circumstances, can be overwhelming. That's exactly why senior transition services exist: to bring together the specialized expertise families need to move a loved one safely, respectfully, and without unnecessary stress. Below, we highlight eight trusted providers serving the Sarasota area, each specializing in a different piece of the transition puzzle. What Are Senior Transition Services, and Who Are They For?Senior transition services is an umbrella term for the range of professionals who help older adults and their families navigate major life changes most commonly, moving from a longtime home into a smaller home, a senior living community, or a family member's residence. Unlike a single moving company, this category covers several distinct specialties that often work together on the same transition: Senior move managers professionals who plan, organize, pack, and coordinate the entire move from start to finish Senior real estate specialists (SRES) realtors trained specifically in the financial and emotional complexities of a senior home sale Cash home buyers companies that purchase homes as-is, removing the burden of repairs, showings, and lengthy market timelines Professional movers crews who handle the physical labor of packing, loading, and transporting belongings Non-emergency medical transportation safe, accessible rides for seniors with mobility needs, before, during, and after a move Senior placement and care advisory services advisors who help families evaluate and choose the right senior living community or care option This category is a fit for families who are navigating a move driven by a health change, a fall, a spouse's passing, a desire to be closer to family, or simply the practical reality that a home has become too large or too difficult to maintain. It's also for adult children coordinating a parent's move from out of state, and for seniors themselves who want expert, compassionate guidance rather than trying to figure it all out alone. The 8 Best Senior Transition Services in Sarasota, FL1. Senior Care Authority SarasotaPhone: (732) 743-8383 ext. 700Senior Care Authority is a national provider of senior living guidance and eldercare consulting, and the Sarasota office is led locally by Rob and Yana Kevlin, both Certified Senior Advisors. The company was founded in 2009 by Frank Samson, who built the organization around a concierge approach to helping families through the complex, often emotional process of finding the right care setting for an aging loved one.The Sarasota team's process starts with a one-on-one phone assessment to understand a family's needs, followed by a consultation that weighs care requirements, geographic preferences, and budget, and ends with a customized plan the advisors help manage every step of the way. Their guidance covers assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, and independent living, and clients specifically praise the team's patience and genuine investment in finding the right fit including, in one case, a placement that also accommodated a client's cat, a detail that mattered enormously to that family.Best for: Families who aren't sure yet where a loved one should move and need an experienced, unbiased advisor to help evaluate senior living options before any moving logistics begin. 2. My Care FindersPhone: (941) 666-0266My Care Finders is a free senior placement and concierge service based in Sarasota, serving Sarasota, Manatee, Charlotte, Pinellas, and Hillsborough counties. The team helps families compare assisted living, independent living, memory care, home health, and long-term care options, personally touring communities alongside families as an advocate rather than simply handing over a list.Their process starts with a meeting to determine the appropriate level of care, preferred location, budget, and social needs, and the team is compensated by the senior living communities they partner with meaning the service costs families nothing out of pocket. My Care Finders also offers practical guidance many families don't think to ask about, such as which personal items are safe to bring to an assisted living residence and which are better left in storage.Best for: Families who need a local advocate to personally tour communities with them and negotiate the placement process on their behalf, at no cost. 3. Keyes Realty Group Patricia DecPhone: (407) 921-4351Patricia Dec is a licensed Realtor with Keyes Realty Group serving Manatee and Sarasota counties, with a practice built specifically around two priorities: helping seniors navigate life transitions and guiding relocating families to their new Florida home. As a certified Senior Real Estate Specialist (SRES), Patricia's approach starts with listening she's upfront that not every client's goal is a sale, and when aging in place is the better path, she'll say so honestly, even if it means no transaction. When a move is the right choice, her SRES training equips her to guide clients through the financial and emotional layers of downsizing, including timing a sale around retirement income and understanding the tax implications of a move. Patricia brings a distinctive perspective to this work, drawing on nearly 30 years of prior Wall Street experience as a Risk and Compliance Director in San Francisco, New York, and London. She also works closely with families relocating from high-tax Northeastern states to Florida's West Coast in search of a more favorable retirement lifestyle.Best for: Seniors and families who want a realtor with specialized SRES training and an honest, no-pressure approach to deciding whether to sell at all. 4. Sarasota Cash Home BuyersPhone: (941) 202-6957Sarasota Cash Home Buyers, led by Jeff Nemeth, offers seniors a straightforward alternative to a traditional home sale: a direct, as-is cash offer with no repairs, no showings, no realtor commissions, and a closing timeline the seller controls. Nemeth, who is also a licensed Realtor and Senior Real Estate Specialist (SRES) with Dalton Wade Real Estate Group, operates what the company describes as a hybrid model giving families the choice between a full-market listing or a fast, private cash sale, depending on what best fits their circumstances. This flexibility matters most when timing is tight: a discharge date from a hospital or rehab facility, an opening at a senior living community, or a family that simply can't manage the physical and emotional demands of preparing a longtime home for market. The company works closely with senior care providers, move managers, and placement specialists throughout Sarasota, Manatee, Charlotte, Pinellas, and Pasco counties, often stepping in specifically when a house has become the bottleneck holding up a care transition.Best for: Families facing a time-sensitive move who need to sell a home as-is, without the delays and unpredictability of a traditional listing. 5. Bluestar Move ManagementPhone: (239) 387-1154Bluestar Move Management is a senior move management and estate sale company serving Southwest Florida, including Sarasota, from its base in Bonita Springs. The company, an NASMM A+ Accredited provider, offers a full range of transition services: customized move planning, packing and unpacking, professional organizing and decluttering, estate sale coordination, donation management, and complete home clear-outs once a move is finished.Family reviews describe a meticulous, detail-oriented approach one client noted that the Bluestar team photographed and labeled every box before a move, then unpacked and placed each item according to its original location once the family arrived at their new home. The company also builds custom floor plans to help families visualize how their furniture will fit in a new, smaller space before moving day arrives, and has experience coordinating moves into independent living, assisted living, and memory care communities.Best for: Families who want white-glove, detail-driven move management, from the first walkthrough to full unpacking at the new home. 6. MoveologyPhone: (941) 294-0336Moveology is a NASMM-certified senior move and relocation specialist based in Rotonda West, serving North Port, Englewood, Port Charlotte, Venice, Wellen Park, and the surrounding Sarasota and Charlotte County communities. The company focuses specifically on the organizational side of a senior transition downsizing, organizing, packing, unpacking, and settling clients into their new home rather than operating as a general moving company.Because Moveology specializes exclusively in senior relocation, the team is trained to handle the process with an emotional sensitivity that general movers often aren't equipped to provide, helping families sort through decades of belongings and make thoughtful decisions about what to keep, donate, or pass along.Best for: Seniors in the North Port, Englewood, and Venice areas who need a specialized, NASMM-certified move manager rather than a general moving company. 7. Sunshine Movers of SarasotaPhone: (941) 447-1719Sunshine Movers of Sarasota is a family-owned, BBB-accredited moving company serving Sarasota, Bradenton, Lakewood Ranch, Venice, and Parrish. The company holds an A rating with the Better Business Bureau and is licensed by both the Florida Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services and the U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. Beyond residential and commercial moves, Sunshine Movers specifically lists senior relocation among its core services.Customer reviews consistently point to the crew's care and professionalism, with families describing movers who protected furniture with padding and tape, communicated clearly throughout the process, and made what could have been a stressful moving day feel smooth and manageable. The company maintains an outstanding reputation locally, reflected in consistently high review counts across multiple platforms.Best for: Families who need the physical, hands-on labor of a move handled by an experienced, well-reviewed local crew. 8. Able TransportPhone: (239) 990-2318Able Transport, LLC is a veteran-owned, non-emergency medical transportation company based in Fort Myers that serves Southwest Florida, including the Sarasota area, with more than 12 years of experience. The company provides ambulatory, wheelchair, and stretcher transportation for medical appointments, dialysis and therapy visits, outpatient procedures, adult day programs, and importantly for families in the middle of a move facility discharge transport and airport transportation to RSW and PGD.For a senior transition, reliable transportation is often the piece families overlook until the last minute: getting a loved one safely from a hospital or rehab facility to a new home, or to and from moving-day appointments when they can no longer drive themselves. Able Transport's drivers are trained specifically for this kind of passenger, prioritizing comfort, dignity, and punctuality throughout.Best for: Families who need safe, dependable transportation for a senior during a move or facility discharge, especially when mobility equipment like a wheelchair or stretcher is involved. Why This Matters Locally in SarasotaSarasota is one of Florida's most established retirement destinations, and that reputation comes with a practical reality: an enormous number of local transitions happen every year, as retirees who moved here decades ago now face decisions about downsizing, senior living, or moving closer to family.A few things make senior transitions in Sarasota distinct: Many homeowners have decades of equity and decades of belongings. Long-time Sarasota residents often face the double challenge of a home that's grown in value but also filled with a lifetime of possessions to sort through which is exactly why specialized move managers and downsizing services are in such demand here. Seasonal and out-of-state family dynamics are common. With so many "snowbird" residents and adult children living out of state, coordinating a transition often means working with a team that can communicate clearly with family members who aren't physically in Sarasota to help. Timing pressure is real. Whether it's a hospital discharge date, an opening at a senior living community, or a health event that accelerates the timeline, Sarasota families frequently need transition professionals who can move quickly without cutting corners. The local senior living market is competitive. With so many communities to choose from across Sarasota, Manatee, and Charlotte counties, an experienced local placement advisor can save families significant time and help them avoid costly missteps. Choosing providers who already understand these Sarasota-specific dynamics rather than a national call center with no local knowledge tends to make the entire transition smoother and less stressful. How to Get StartedA senior transition rarely needs just one type of help most families end up working with two or three of the specialties above. Here's a simple way to start: Identify what's driving the transition. A planned downsizing move looks very different from an urgent post-hospitalization move. Knowing your timeline will help you decide which providers to call first. Start with placement guidance if the destination isn't decided yet. If your loved one hasn't chosen a new home or community, a senior placement advisor like My Care Finders or Senior Care Authority is often the right first call. Loop in a senior real estate specialist early. Whether the plan is to list traditionally or sell for cash, an SRES-certified realtor or a cash home buyer can advise you on timing well before moving day. Book a move manager as soon as a date is set. Senior move managers like Bluestar Move Management or Moveology can begin sorting, packing, and planning weeks in advance, which significantly reduces last-minute stress. Confirm transportation needs. If your loved one has mobility limitations or needs to travel between a facility and a new home, arrange transportation with a provider like Able Transport ahead of moving day. Ask every provider about their experience with seniors specifically. Not all movers or realtors have specialized training in the emotional and physical realities of a later-in-life move ask directly about SRES certification, NASMM membership, or senior-specific experience. Get everything in writing. From moving quotes to real estate agreements, make sure timelines, costs, and services are clearly documented before work begins.
