This month, we would like to highlight one of our premium services - Music Therapy. What is MUSIC Therapy? Music therapy is an evidence-based practice of using live and recorded music to meet the psychological, physical, emotional, spiritual, and social needs of patients and their families. In hospice, music therapy can be beneficial and result in improved quality of life, increased comfort and relaxation, reduction of anxiety, and more. Our music therapists have specialized training from an accredited college program for music therapy followed by completion of a six-month internship and national board certification. Why MUSIC Therapy?   Music often has ways of reaching those who may not be able to communicate or respond as they used to. Studies have shown that those nearing the end-of-life are still able to hear. Music therapy also offers a unique and memorable experience that promotes a meaningful connection between the patient, music, and music therapists. Music therapy visits may involve (but are not limited to) music listening, singing, songwriting, improvisation, music making, and music for relaxation or guided imagery. Music therapists incorporate each patients musical preferences to make their experience more meaningful. Using patient preferred music may also encourage reminiscence and bring joy to patients and their families.
